The Gem was created by the Amalgamated Press editor Percy Griffiths as a weekly story paper (cost 1/2d) containing a mixture of school and adventure stories. It began its run in 1907 alternating complete stories of plucky British boys tackling trouble at home and abroad with stories of Tom Merry & Co. of Clavering School. From issue 11 of the first series, Clavering School was amalgamated with St. Jim's (currently appearing in stories in Pluck); and for the rest of the Gem's long life it featured full length stories of Tom Merry, Jack Blake, Arthur Augustus D'Arcy, George Figgins et al at St. Jim's school.
This part of the site is still under construction and more details will be added soon.
