His guardian legally changed his name to Frank Cleveland, to enable him to hide his past and go to Greyfriars. Determining to start afresh, he forsake sports for study, but Vernon-Smith recognised him as Osborne, and he had difficulty in discrediting Smithy’s story. Finally being accepted as Cleveland, he blew his cover by rescuing Bolsover Minor from drowning, and had to leave Greyfriars.
